Nov.21st, I went to Trenton, New Jersey. It took five and a half hours from Boston by using Amtrak It is located nealy alongside the east coast, passing through NY and then nearly another one hour by train.
Trenton is famous for its role in the American Revolution, winning a significant victory to change the course of the war. After its industrial history began in the 1840s with small pottery manufactories, the city was greatly flourished with ceramic and steel cable industries.
There is a large mural by Everett Shinn, a prominent member of Ashcan School of American artists, in the council chambers of Trenton City Hall, It was drew when the City Hall established in 1907, depicts the fiery interiors of the city's iconic industries, the Maddock ceramics factory on the right, and the Roebling steel cable plant on the left, both dripping with the sweat and the exertion of muscular workingmen.
The population of Trenton is around 80 thousands now. The industries was declined after that, and the city couldn't find other industries to replace them. The main employer of the city is state government of New Jersey, the noumer of employees counts nealy half of total number of the city. Looking at the racial makeup, African Americans counts nealy half of total population, and in these fifteen years, the number of Hispanic shops and restaurants fairly increasing. Trenton seemed to be a typical American small town not gentrifying and struggling in poverty.
And I'm now staying in the room of AirBnB in Philadelphia.
